The Mission Statement

All Kinds Musick is all about the idea that music is universal. Everyone can find something to treasure - even though finding treasures seems to be getting harder and harder to do.

The ability to access every song ever made for a monthly fee that costs half what a single record album used to cost means that anyone with an internet connection can theoretically find any music they want.

But how do you know you want it before you find it?

The hope is that sharing personal stories of how I found and connected with a wide variety of musicks and traditions will help lead you into places you wouldn’t have found on your own.

You only have to be willing to poke in the corners, dust a few things off, and be open to the odd and unfamiliar. There’s bound to be something in this shop that you will love.

Why subscribe?

All Kinds Musick aims to remain free to all comers - but we could do more if we have a budget. Industry averages for listener-supported art suggest that fewer than 1% of the audience of a given platform (podcasts, NPR shows, ‘Zines, etc.) will contribute.

If 1 out of every 100 subscribers contributed to All Kinds Musick, I would be thrilled. So sign up for free, see what you think of my two-posts-per-week format, and consider dropping a coin in the hat!

Music is so easy to make and share today that we sometimes forget its value. Appreciating all kinds of music means exploring and learning about the people who made it, the people who loved it, and sometimes learning more about yourself.

People

In a world where music is so easy to make, understanding its value is more important than ever. The same could be said of people.
